Nicola organised PR for the fundraisers at
Butterwick Hospice in Stockton. She wrote press releases for fundraising
events to generate awareness of the work the Hospice did and to boost ticket
sales and attendance at events. Having built up her own local media
contacts Nicola sent out regular press releases. She increased awareness
of the charity by gaining them coverage on local ITV news for a Dance event
called Dance Inferno and on BBC Look North to highlight a funding issue. This
involved finding out what the reporters wanted to film and setting up a
suitable time and location. For the promotion of Dance Inferno,
Nicola organised for local children to tap dance in full costume and dance
teachers to show Butterwick staff how to take their first dance steps as
well as interviewing dancers to highlight the work the Hospice does.
Nicola also worked with businesses like
supermarket chain, Somerfield, who adopted the Children’s Hospice,
to ensure they received positive publicity for all the fundraising they
were doing. This included getting radio and press coverage.
