If you fail to plan, you plan to fail
January 2007
It’s a New Year so get it off to a great start by putting marketing at the centre of your business planning process. Many of you will have to create business plans for 2007 but many people don’t see marketing as important in this process.
Move your business forward one step at a time. You may have a big goal you want to achieve over the next five years but do this step by step or year by year. You need to set measurable objectives and look at how marketing can help you achieve this. Prepare a timetable for action, month by month, and use it to check that everything is being done on time and as planned.
When business planning you must set a realistic budget for marketing activity and set a budget that will enable you to achieve your objectives. If you have a big objective it will probably require more money. And if things get tough in your business don’t cut your marketing budget as you will need this to maintain competitor advantage. However, there is nothing wrong with re-assessing your strategy and use of the promotional tools to see if they can work better.
Remember if you fail to plan, you plan to fail!
