Marketing agency takes school meals into the digital age

11th November 2009

AVF Marketing with Colin JacksonDigital Marketing Agency, AVF Marketing Ltd, has organised National School Meals Week 2009 on behalf of the Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA). It runs from 9th to 13th November to support a whole school approach to healthier eating by encouraging pupils and students to have a nutritious school meal and adopt an active lifestyle.

Entitled “Get Involved”, the 2009 Week is proving to be the biggest event ever with over 90 school meal provider organisations taking part, equating to approximately 16,000 Primary and Secondary schools.

This year’s National School Meals Week has gone digital. For the first time, the week is an online digital marketing campaign with activities operating through its website – www.iloveschoolmeals.co.uk which is aimed at school caterers, head teachers, teachers, governors, parents and young people.  Each day of the week will feature different themes and events for Primary and Secondary schools including Get Eating, Get Cooking, Get Active, Get Filming and Get Thanking. All the marketing materials for the week can be downloaded or accessed via the website. Caterers and schools have been kept up-to-date with regular Tweets and emails. They can also join the Fan page on Facebook.

Over the last few months people have been visiting the site and voting for Britain’s favourite school meal. The result was announced by Colin Jackson on Monday 9th November. A roast dinner and sponge pudding and custard was voted the most popular school meal.

Arnold Fewell, Managing Director, AVF Marketing Ltd said: “We have used a range of digital marketing techniques to encourage everyone to get involved including social networking, search engine optimisation, blogs, emails and videos. This is a big move for the industry which has used more traditional marketing techniques in the past. LACA has realised that the tools their target market use have changed and so have used more digital techniques to encourage people to take part.  It’s worked as this is the biggest National School Meals Week ever.”
