Local marketing agency, AVF Marketing, is supporting Butterwick House Children’s Hospice in a new idea called the Butterwick Apprentice. This is an exciting new scheme in which teams from local schools are invited to take £50 and through their innovation and enterprise grow it by as much as they possibly can in three months.

All the proceeds from the Apprentice will be used to support the valuable work of the Children's Hospice, which provides loving care to children with life-limiting illnesses and their families from across the North East.

The challenge is being issued to all local schools and it allows pupils to develop core business skills in a real-life setting.

The King’s Academy in Middleborough is one of the first schools to join the scheme.

Jo Yates, Student Development Officer at the King’s Academy, said "The Butterwick Apprentice is an inspired scheme that links raising funds for the Hospice with learning and skills enrichment for local students, all the while raising awareness of the Butterwick House. Our Sixth Form students are planning their chosen event at the moment and are excited at the prospect of meeting the challenge of tripling their £50... at least!"

AVF Marketing, an award-winning marketing consultancy based in Northallerton, North Yorkshire, has kindly provided the initial funds to kick-start the projects with the first participating schools. They have also helped create a superb website at www.urhired.org.uk.

Arnold Fewell, Managing Director of AVF Marketing, said, “I believe it is really important for local businesses to have a corporate social responsibility policy. This scheme is a great example and any small business can help by donating £50 for a school to use as their initial fund. Then the pupils can increase that sum while learning many important life skills. I hope many more companies will help”.

Damon Millar, Fundraiser with Butterwick, said “I would like to thank the King’s Academy for helping us to launch this exciting new initiative that will help to develop pupils in the local area and support the valuable work of the Hospice. We are extremely grateful to AVF Marketing for providing the initial funds to kick-start this scheme.”

Schools or pupils who would like to enter the Butterwick Apprentice or companies that would like to make a donation should call 01642 628 930 or visit the website www.urhired.org.uk
