Meet the new faces of school meals

Tuesday, 20th February, 2007

Key Stage 2 pupils in six local authority areas will see some new faces at school lunchtimes as a new addition to www.myschoollunch.co.uk is being introduced.

Roxie and Billy are two new cartoon style characters that have been created to educate Key Stage 2 children about the benefits of eating healthy food and leading an active lifestyle.

The characters have their own mini-site which can be accessed from the My School Lunch website.  The first Roxie and Billy site was launched on Wednesday 14th February in Nottingham City.  It can be visited at www.myschoollunch.co.uk/nottingham/kids/roxieandbilly.

On the Roxie and Billy site children can learn about the characters including how they met, what they like to eat and what sports they are interested in.  There are also regular news stories so children can find out what Roxie and Billy have been up to.  Roxie is 16 and enjoys surfing and snowboarding whilst 17 year old Billy competes in triathlons.  Both characters highlight the importance of eating regular healthy meals for them to succeed in their chosen sports and at school.

Children can complete the Roxie and Billy award by downloading the activity sheet from the award section.  They then have to go round the website using the clues given and collect all the pictures they need to complete the award.  It helps children learn about creatures and life under the sea.

Arnold Fewell, managing director at AVF Marketing which created www.myschoollunch.co.uk said: “The new website has been introduced to educate Key Stage 2 children about healthy eating through characters that they can relate to.  We are a running a competition to launch the site with a Sony Playstation 2 and an Eye Toy as the prize.  This is a great way for children to keep fit with friends and family as the energetic games keep children entertained for hours.”

Over the next few months Roxie and Billy will also be launched in North Yorkshire, Caerphilly, Hampshire, Southampton and Surrey.
