Family trio on the run for charity

Thursday, 7th September, 2006

Everyone has heard of the BUPA Great North Run and many will have watched the event on TV.  But the gruelling 13.1 mile course from Newcastle to South Shields will be a reality for three sisters this year.

Karen, Nicola and Sarah Fewell, from Northallerton, are busy training to take on the challenging event.

This will be the third year that Karen (29 years) will run the event and the second time Nicola (26) and Sarah (22) will take part.  The family trio are aiming to raise a huge amount of money for their charity, Butterwick Children’s Hospice.

Until recently Nicola worked as a fundraiser for the Children’s Hospice based in Stockton and frequently told her family about the fantastic work the Hospice does.  Her sisters could see how passionate Nicola was about the charity and when they heard that Butterwick Hospice was looking for runners they immediately wanted to help.

Sarah Fewell said: “Training has been hard this year but we all have an extra incentive to get us to that finish line.  We want to raise as much money as possible to help local children with a life limiting illness and their families and we are appealing to local people to support us.  Every penny we raise will go back into the community to help others.”

You can sponsor the Fewell girls online at www.justgiving.co.uk/nicfewell or www.justgiving.co.uk/kf_cl or you can call AVF Marketing Ltd to pledge your support on 01609 775685

AVF Marketing Ltd is the family business in which Karen and Nicola work.  The company is supporting the sisters’ aim to raise £1,000 between them which will provide around 10 hours of care for a child.

Arnold Fewell, managing director of AVF Marketing and the girls’ father said: “It will be a proud moment when all three girls cross the finish line of the BUPA Great North Run 2006.  It is such a long way but knowing that they will be raising money to make a difference to the lives of local children will help them on their way.”
